Arts Discovery Educational Series Presents
Rosie Revere, Ada Twist and Iggy Peck: The Questioneers
RECOMMENDED FOR GRADES K-5
This STEM-fueled musical features excellent role models for young scientists, prompting kids to go home and create engineering projects of their own! Based on the books by Andrea Beaty, “Rosie Revere, Ada Twist and Iggy Peck: The Questioneers” is a theatrical adventure that leaps off the page and onto the stage.
Ms. Greer’s classroom includes three inquisitive out-of-the-box thinkers. Rosie Revere has big dreams, Iggy Peck has a relentless passion for architecture, and Ada Twist’s curiosity can drive her teacher crazy. On a field trip gone awry, they are faced with the ultimate test of their problem-solving skills that can only be conquered with teamwork.
NC Standard Course of Study Connections:
Theatre Arts K–5
- PR.1 — Act by communicating and sustaining roles (students observe characters using creativity and problem-solving on their STEM-themed adventure)
- CR.1 — Generate and conceptualize artistic ideas (understand how Andrea Beaty’s books transform from page to stage)
- CN.1 — Understand theatre in various cultural and disciplinary contexts (connect scientific inquiry and engineering habits of mind with performance)
ELA Standards K–5
- RL.K.3, RL.1.3, RL.2.3 — Describe characters, settings, and major events (identify Ada, Rosie, and Iggy and how their curiosity drives the plot)
- RL.K.9, RL.1.9, RL.2.9 — Compare and contrast texts (compare the original books with the musical adaptation)
- RL.3.3, RL.4.3, RL.5.3 — Describe characters and explain how their actions contribute to the sequence of events (analyze the teamwork needed to solve the field-trip challenge)
- W.3.3, W.4.3, W.5.3 — Write narratives (create their own STEM-inspired story or engineering challenge after the show)
Science Standards K–5
- K.P.2 / 1.P.1 — Observe, describe, and ask questions about the world using senses and simple tools (students see Ada model scientific questioning and investigation)
- K–2 Engineering & Design (ETS) — Identify problems and test simple solutions (mirrors Ada, Rosie, and Iggy troubleshooting challenges on their trip)
- 3.P.1 / 4.P.2 — Understand the properties of objects and how they interact (architecture, inventions, and design thinking shown by Iggy and Rosie)
- 3–5 Engineering & Design (ETS) — Plan, design, test, and improve solutions to a problem (directly connected to the storyline where the three characters must engineer their way out of trouble)
- Science & Engineering Practices (3–5) — Asking questions, defining problems, constructing explanations, and arguing from evidence (mirrors how Ada investigates, experiments, and leads teamwork to solve the central problem)
All Durham Public Schools reservations will be made by the school-designated Arts Liaison. The Arts Liaison was appointed by each school principal to coordinate this effort. Please contact your principal for further action.
Online reservations end five days prior to a performance date. Tickets will still be sold at the box office on the date of the event, dependent upon availability. Please email us for availability at efan@carolinatheatre.org.
