Sensory Friendly Film Series

The Sensory Friendly Film Series offers a welcoming and supportive environment for autistic individuals and others in need of sensory accommodations. The series presents films in a comfortable environment once a month.

This offering was created in partnership with the Duke Center for Autism and Brain Development.

Tickets are free and can be reserved in advance of the film screening online, by phone at (919) 560-3030, at the Barnes Box Office, or the Cinema Box Office. We understand that plans change! If you have reserved tickets to a Sensory Friendly film screening and are no longer able to attend, you can return your tickets online by logging in to your account or by contacting our Box Office at efan@carolinatheatre.org as soon as possible before the scheduled screening. This allows us to open seating for other guests.

The Sensory Friendly Film Series provides an environment that is accessible, welcoming, and comfortable for individuals on the spectrum.

  • Lights will remain slightly up.
  • The sound will be turned down.
  • Audience members are encouraged to get up out of their seats, dance, walk, or sing.
  • Families are permitted to bring their own snacks from home. Concessions will also be available for purchase.
  • A quiet space with calming activities is available for anyone who may experience overstimulation during the film screening.
  • The following complimentary items will be available at the Barnes Box Office.
    • Kid-friendly booster seats.
    • Ear plugs.
    • Audio description or closed captioning devices.
