DURHAM, NC — July 15, 2024 — The Carolina Theatre of Durham presents “Sloane: A Jazz Singer” film screening and discussion on September 7, 2024.

Tickets to see “Sloane: A Jazz Singer” at the Carolina Theatre are available at the box office and on the venue’s website, www.carolinatheatre.org.

“Sloane: A Jazz Singer” shares the poignant story of 1960s jazz sensation Carol Sloane, who during her years in Durham, lived just three blocks from the Carolina Theatre. A natural interpreter of the Great American Songbook, she was hailed by Johnny Carson and later the Washington Post as “the greatest living jazz singer.” She performed and toured with some of the biggest names, like Oscar Peterson and Ella Fitzgerald, and befriended rock legends like the Beatles and the Rolling Stones.

Through rare archival footage, intimate moments with Sloane, and enlightening commentary from industry leaders, this multi-award-winning documentary reveals a singular artist’s devotion to her passion against great odds and invites us to examine the meaning of success in a world where “art don’t pay.”

“Sloane: A Jazz Singer” is the winner of 12 “Best Documentary” awards around the globe and most recently screened at Cannes. The screening will be followed by a live discussion featuring the film’s production team – Director Michael Lippert, Executive Producer Stephen Barefoot, Executive Producer Taylor Arnold, Producer Donna Campbell, and Producer Georgann Eubanks.

Don’t miss your chance to see “Sloane: A Jazz Singer” at the Carolina Theatre on September 7, 2024.
