DURHAM, NC — May 15, 2023— The Carolina Theatre of Durham announces its new Sensory Friendly Film Series. All film screenings will be free. Film screenings will take place monthly beginning in July and ending in December.
The Sensory Friendly Film Series will screen family-friendly films in a safe and welcoming environment for children, teens, and adults on the autism spectrum, and those who are sensory sensitive. During screenings, lights will be dimmed, but not darkened, the volume will be lowered, and seating capacity will be reduced allowing guests to spread out, get up out of their seats, dance, walk, or sing.
This season’s films include “Inside Out,” “Spirited Away,” “Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure,” “Casper,” “Coco,” and “The Nightmare Before Christmas.”
Kid-friendly booster seats, earplugs, and audio descriptions or closed captioning devices will be available for attendees at the box office. As well, a quiet space with calming activities will be available for anyone who may experience overstimulation during the films.
Families are permitted to bring their own snacks from home. Concessions will also be available for purchase.
