The Carolina Theatre Celebrates Bull Durham’s 35th Anniversary

“Bull Durham” will be screened as part of the Carolina Theatre’s Retro Film Series 

DURHAM, NC — June 8, 2023The Carolina Theatre of Durham will screen “Bull Durham” on July 22, 2023, following the 35th Anniversary of the film’s release. The film was shot in Durham, North Carolina, and premiered at the Carolina Theatre of Durham in 1988. 

“Bull Durham” is an American romantic sports-comedy starring Kevin Costner and Susan Sarandon, that follows fictional players and fans of the Durham Bulls, the real minor-league baseball team of Durham, North Carolina. Released, in 1988, the film was a commercial success, grossing over $50 million and garnering critical acclaim with an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Screenplay. Heralded the “Greatest Sports Movie of all Time” by “Sports Illustrated,” “Bull Durham” remains a cultural touchstone for generations. 

Bull Durham will be screened on July 22, 2023, as part of the Carolina Theatre’s Retro: The Criterion Collection Film Series. The weekend-long event takes place from July 21-23 and features culturally important classic and contemporary films belonging to the Criterion Collection, a home-video distribution company.  

All films in the Retro: The Criterion Collection Film Series can be found at Tickets for individual films in the series tickets are $12. A 10-Pass for the series is $100 plus taxes and fees and is available at the theater’s box office.
