DURHAM, NC, February 16, 2026—The Carolina Theatre of Durham proudly presents the 27th annual Nevermore Film Festival, taking place in-person from February 27 to March 1 and virtually from February 27 to March 8.
Nevermore showcases a diverse selection of horror, dark fantasy, mystery, suspense, action, thriller, and science fiction films from around the world. The festival is the longest continuously running horror film festival in the U.S. Recognized as one of the premier genre festivals in the United States, Nevermore has earned accolades such as “Top 100 Best Reviewed Film Festivals” by FilmFreeway, “One of the Best Horror Film Festivals in the World” by Dread Central and is currently nominated for a spot among the “10BEST Readers’ Choice Awards for Best Film Festival” by USA TODAY!
This year’s festival will present 8 feature films and 73 shorts, two U.S. premieres, and nine world premieres from fourteen countries around the world.
“While there is a strong international presence at Nevermore, we are proud to highlight films with North Carolina connections and the local, home-grown talent of North Carolina filmmakers” says Jim Carl, Senior Director of Film at the Carolina Theatre.
For the first time ever, we are presenting three programs that have North Carolina connections. The feature films, “Lesions” and “Paranormal Investigations” are from NC filmmakers and were shot in the state, while the shorts block, “Graveyard of The Atlantic” is comprised of short films either shot in NC or whose filmmaker was originally based in NC.
Festivalgoers can participate in voting for Nevermore Audience Awards during both the in-person and virtual festivals. Nevermore Jury Award winners will be announced on February 25. Audience Award winners will be announced on March 3.
