DURHAM, NC, February 5, 2024—The Carolina Theatre of Durham presents the 25th annual Nevermore Film Festival in-person from February 23-25 and virtually from February 23-March 1.

Nevermore showcases narrative features and shorts—with an emphasis on horror, science fiction, dark fantasy, animation, mystery/suspense, and action-thrillers. The festival has gained a reputation as one of the premiere genre festivals in the USA, being named a “Top 100 Film Festival” by FilmFreeway and “One of the Best Horror Film Festivals in the World” by Dread Central.

The 2024 edition contains 11 feature films and 60 shorts, with 41 North Carolina premieres, five United States premieres, and five world premieres. The filmmakers hail from nine countries around the world, including three filmmakers local to North Carolina.

Highlights this year include psychological thriller, “The Activated Man”; the Estonian dark fantasy, “Dr. Sanders Sleep Cure”; zombie-comedy, “All You Need Is Blood”; and locally shot film, “The Eye of the Salamander.”

With 19 categories in competition, a full list of Nevermore Jury Award-winning films will be published mid-February. Festival-goers will be able to participate in voting for audience favorite awards during both the in-person and virtual festivals.

“We are proud that Nevermore continues to grow each year. Now in its 25th year, the festival will screen the most feature films and shorts in its history. Not only has the quantity of films increased, but so has the quality, making it even more exciting to gather together in-person and online to experience these films, ” says Jim Carl, Senior Director of Film at the Carolina Theatre.

Individual tickets for the in-person Nevermore Film Festival are $13.50 and 10-passes are $120 including taxes and fees. Individual tickets may be purchased online at carolinatheatre.org or at the theater’s box office. Passes will only be available at the box office. Virtual tickets are $12.93 per film and virtual passes are $113.92 including taxes and fees. Virtual tickets and passes can be purchased on the theater’s website at carolinatheatre.org.
