Retro: The Criterion Collection Film Series Runs June 21-27 at Carolina Theatre of Durham

DURHAM, NC — June 11, 2024 — Retro: The Criterion Collection Film Series begins on June 21 at the Carolina Theatre of Durham. The weekend-long series, ending June 27, features films that are part of Criterion’s archive. 

The Criterion Collection is an American home-video distribution company that restores, preserves, and distributes the most important films of all time. The ongoing collection includes culturally significant classic and contemporary films.  

Retro: The Criterion Collection will feature twelve films from the collection including Martin Scorsese’s “After Hours,” Andrei Tarkovsky’s “Ivan’s Childhood,” Jean Vigo’s “L’Atalante,” Federico Fellini’s “Fellini Satyricon,” Ingmar Bergman’s “The Magician,” and more.     

“The Criterion Collection aims to reflect the breadth of filmed expression. Similarly, this Retro series will feature exemplary films from a variety of genres from around the world.” says the Carolina Theatre’s Senior Director of Film, Jim Carl. 

Retro: The Criterion Collection is part of the theater’s Retro Film Series, which presents double-feature screenings of classic films most Friday nights and hosts several sub-series including the MovieDiva Film Series featuring classic films with strong female leads; Retro Epics Film Series classic films with strong female leads; Retro Epics Film Series, featuring some of the most monumental movies in film history; and Kaiju-Quest, a Japanese genre of film focused on big monsters.
