Pierce Freelon Performs at the Carolina Theatre of Durham on October 15 to Kick Off the 2022-2023 Season of its Family Saturday Series

DURHAM, NC — October 5, 2022 — Pierce Freelon will perform at the Carolina Theatre of Durham on October 15 at 11 am to kick off the 2022-2023 season of its Family Saturday Series 

The Carolina Theatre’s Family Saturday Series is an educational program that provides high quality, affordable arts experiences and introduces young audiences to the excitement of live performances, music, storytelling, and magic. The series offers family-friendly programming for all ages one Saturday a month, starting October 15 with Freelon’s “Black to the Future” performance.    

The GRAMMY® nominated musician, author and educator’s “Black to the Future” performance will invite the audience to participate in an interactive, Afrofuturistic mixed media concert of progressive soul, hip-hop, and jazz. 

At 10 am, prior to the Black to the Future performance, a kickoff celebration for ticketholders will be held in the CCB plaza in front of the theater. The celebration will feature hip-hop and spoken word performances by Blackspace. There will be creative artmaking and portraits with Art For All; balloon art from Lune Spark; facepainting by Fun Nana’s; and hair braiding and beading tutorials with April’s Braids and Beads for KidsA children’s reading nook will be onsite provided by Rofhiwa Book Cafe
