DURHAM, August 4, 2023 — The Carolina Theatre of Durham presents the OUTSOUTH Queer Film Festival August 10-13. An après-fest will follow the festival with re-screenings August 14-17.

OUTSOUTH celebrates a worldwide glimpse of today’s LGBTQ+ life through a diverse array of entertaining and sophisticated shorts, documentaries, and feature films.

This year the festival will feature 14 feature films and 81 short films from 13 countries. Five films have North Carolina connections, either being filmed in NC or featuring an NC filmmaker. Highlights include Canadian coming-of-age drama “Golden Delicious,”  feature documentaries, “Commitment to Life” and “Chasing Chasing Amy,” romantic short, “Shafted,” and more.

Beginning in 1995 as “A Salute to Pride” and running from 1996-2019 as the North Carolina Gay + Lesbian Film Festival (NCGLFF), the festival was renamed OUTSOUTH in 2020. Since its inception, the festival has been a tentpole event that brings the community together. Discover Durham named OUTSOUTH a Signature Event for Durham, the highest honor bestowed on a cultural event or attraction by the organization.

OUTSOUTH has also received national and international accolades by consistently being ranked as one of the “Top 10 Queer Film Festivals in the U.S.” In 2021, the festival was named one of “20 Fantastic LGBTQ+ Film Festivals Around the Globe,” by Moviemaker Magazine.

“We are thrilled, once again, to bring our vibrant community together at the historic Carolina Theatre for OUTSOUTH!” says Chuck Wheeler, OUTSOUTH Queer Film Festival Coordinator. “The festival gives us the opportunity to celebrate both our diversity and our unity through world-class film.”

Individual tickets for the OUTSOUTH Queer Film Festival are $14 per film and 10 passes are $120. Individual tickets may be purchased online at carolinatheatre.org or at the theater’s box office. Passes will only be available at the box office.

OUTSOUTH is presented by The Forest at Duke and is sponsored by Advance Auto Parts, The City of Durham, and Xperi, among other local and national businesses.
