New Retro Rocks! Film Series Comes to the Carolina Theatre of Durham

DURHAM, NC — July 10, 2023— Retro Rocks! Film Series, comes to the Carolina Theatre of Durham on July 16. The new film series,  Retro Rocks! runs one Sunday a month, from July through December.  

The series will include music documentaries and biopics, concert films and musicals, and movies with generation-defining soundtracks. The six films in the series include “Purple Rain,” “Bohemian Rhapsody,” “The Wiz,” “Pink Floyd: The Wall,” “Say Anything,” and “The Last Waltz.” 

“The films in this series do their best to capture the spirit, content, and attitude of what rock ‘n’ roll movies should be,” says Jim Carl, Senior Director of Film at the Carolina Theatre.

Retro Rocks! is part of the theater’s Retro Film Series, which hosts double-features of classic films most Friday nights and includes several sub-series of films including MovieDiva Film Series, a series featuring classic films with strong female leads; Retro Epics Film Series, featuring some of the most monumental movies in film history, and Retro: The Criterion Collection Film Series, which includes culturally important classic and contemporary films that are a part of Criterion’s archive.
