DURHAM, NC, February 7, 2023—The Carolina Theatre of Durham presents the 24th annual Nevermore Film Festival in-person from February 24-26 and virtually from February 24-March 2.
Nevermore showcases narrative features and shorts—with an emphasis on horror, science fiction, dark fantasy, animation, mystery/suspense, and action-thrillers. The festival has gained a reputation as one of the premiere genre festivals in the USA, being named a “Top 100 Film Festival” by FilmFreeway and “One of the Best Horror Film Festivals in the World” by Dread Central.
The 2023 edition contains 10 feature films and 54 shorts, with 29 North Carolina premieres, nine United States premieres, and three world premieres. The filmmakers hail from 15 countries around the world, including two filmmakers local to North Carolina.
Highlights this year include South Korean survival thriller “Mount CHIAK,” the gonzo horror-comedy “Cult Hero,” and the Nevermore Jury Award-winning Best Feature Film, “The Weird Kidz.”
With nine categories in competition, a full list of Nevermore Jury Award-winning films will be published mid-February. Festival-goers will be able to participate in voting for audience favorite awards during both the in-person and virtual festivals.
“As the festival has grown throughout the years, the quality of films continues to increase, making it even more exciting to gather together in-person and online to showcase these films, ” says Jim Carl, Senior Director of Film at the Carolina Theatre.
Individual tickets for the in-person Nevermore Film Festival are $12 and 10-passes are $100 plus taxes and fees. Individual tickets may be purchased online at carolinatheatre.org or at the theater’s box office. Passes will only be available at the box office. Virtual tickets are $10 per film and passes are $75 plus taxes and fees. Virtual tickets and passes can be purchased on the theater’s website at carolinatheatre.org.
