As the Delta variant spreads throughout North Carolina, the nonprofit theater looks to keep its patrons safe
Durham, NC August 23, 2021—The Carolina Theatre of Durham announced that effective October 4, 2021, proof of a negative Covid-19 test taken within 72 hours of an event or proof of a full COVID-19 vaccination is required for entry. Printed proof in the form of an original vaccination card, printed copy of the card, or negative result is required.
The announcement comes as many venues are trying to keep patrons safe as well as continue to operate during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“The Carolina Theatre is joining venues in downtown and across the country in ensuring the show goes on,” says Randy McKay, CEO of the historic Carolina Theatre. “We’re doing everything we can to make sure we can host film, live events, and educational performances as safely as possible. Part of the equation of ensuring our community’s safety is by requiring a negative COVID-19 test or proof of vaccination for entry.”
In addition to requiring testing or vaccinations, the Carolina Theatre has taken additional steps to ensure its guests’ safety. The nonprofit has upgraded filtration and installed Global Plasma Solutions® (GPS) patented Needlepoint Bipolar Ionization technology (NBPI)™, which purifies indoor air quality in all public spaces. Additionally, the Carolina Theatre has a Global Biorisk Advisory Council® (GBAC) STAR™ certification, the gold standard certification for cleaning, disinfection, and infectious disease prevention. The theater has also implemented contactless ticketing and payment options, upgraded its facilities to no-touch, and has set up more than a dozen hand sanitizer and antibacterial handwipe stations throughout the building.
Currently, guests of the Carolina Theatre are required to wear a mask, mandated by the City of Durham, unless actively eating or drinking. In addition to wearing masks, the staff, volunteers, and vendors of the theater are required to be vaccinated by September 1, 2021 if they work within the building.
