Ladysmith Black Mambazo Comes to the Carolina Theatre on March 3, 2024

DURHAM, NC — August 14, 2023 — National Shows 2 and The Carolina Theatre of Durham present Ladysmith Black Mambazo on March 3, 2024.

Tickets to see Ladysmith Black Mambazo at the Carolina Theatre of Durham are on sale at the Carolina Theatre box office and the venue’s website, www.carolinatheatre.org.

Christened “South Africa’s Cultural Ambassadors” by Nelson Mandela, Ladysmith Black Mambazo have showcased their impeccable harmonies and cultural heritage to the world for more than six decades by singing in the South African traditional music styles of isicathamiya and mbube. 

Since the group’s founding by Joseph Shabalala in 1960, Ladysmith Black Mambazo has become one of South Africa’s most prolific recording artists, receiving gold and platinum disc honors, and spreading messages of peace, love, and harmony, especially during South African apartheid.  

The group would become a worldwide phenomenon, after their collaboration with Paul Simon on his seminal 1986 album “Graceland,” which is credited with introducing World Music to mainstream audiences. Their influential contributions to World Music have been formally recognized with multiple awards, including five Grammy Awards. 

The year 2023 marks the 63rd anniversary of the group’s founding. Currently led by Shabalala’s sons, Ladysmith Black Mambazo continues its legacy, sharing songs of hope by performing around the world.
