    What happens when the voices of Durham’s youth meet the voices of its adult community? Pure magic. Join the Durham Children’s Choir and SONAM (Singers of New and Ancient Music) for a morning of choral music that spans generations, genres, and traditions — from sacred and classical works to world music, gospel, and beyond. Whether you’re a longtime choral enthusiast or simply love a great family morning out, this collaborative concert is a joyful celebration of the power of song to bring our community together. 

    Durham Children’s Choir: 

     The Durham Children’s Choir is a singing group of students from the Durham, North Carolina area. The Choir was founded in 2014 by Scott Hill, retired Durham Public School teacher, and directed by her for the first 10 years. In 2014, Dena Byers took over as the choir’s artistic director. She currently directs DCC’s Bel Canto choir and also teaches music at Hillandale Elementary School. The choir performed with Bobby McFerrin at Duke University during their Inaugural Season, and, more recently, opened for Lauren Daigle when she performed at DPAC in 2021. The Durham Children’s Choir studies and performs a wide variety of choral music, including sacred and secular music, world music, gospel, Broadway and American popular songs.  

    SONAM: 

    Singers of New and Ancient Music (SONAM) is a chorus committed to creating high-quality sacred and secular music and giving back to the community. Our mission is to make excellent choral music that supports local non-profits through benefit concerts. SONAM was established in 2012 and officially became a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization in 2022. The group consists of about 30 talented singers from central North Carolina, led by music director Allan Friedman and accompanist Jane Lynch.

Súmese al Durham Children’s Choir y SONAM (Singers of New and Ancient) para disfrutar de una mañana de música coral que abarca distintas generaciones, géneros y tradiciones: desde obras sacras y clásicas hasta música del mundo, pasando por el gospel y más. Tanto para entusiastas de la música coral como para amantes de una bonita salida matutina en familia, este concierto colaborativo es una celebración festiva del poder que tiene la canción para reunir a la comunidad. 

    Durham Children’s Choir: 

     

    El Durham Children’s Choir es un grupo de canto de estudiantes de la zona de Durham, North Carolina. Este coro fue fundado en 2014 por Scott Hill, una maestra de la escuela pública de Durham retirada, y estuvo dirigido por ella durante los primeros diez años. En 2014, Dena Byers la reemplazó como directora artística del coro. Actualmente, ella dirige el coro Bel Canto del DCC y, también, enseña música en la Hillandale Elementary School. El coro se presentó con Bobby McFerrin en la Duke University durante su temporada inaugural y, más recientemente, abrió para Lauren Daigle cuando se presentó en DPAC en 2021. EL Durham Children’s Choir estudia e interpreta una amplia variedad de música coral que incluye música sacra y secular, música del mundo, gospel y canciones populares estadounidenses y de Broadway.

    Singers of New and Ancient Music (SONAM) es un coro comprometido con la creación de música sacra y secular de alta calidad y con devolver a la comunidad lo que ella les dio. Su misión es hacer música coral de excelencia que apoye a organizaciones locales sin fines de lucro a través de conciertos a beneficio. SONAM se estableció en 2012 y se convirtió oficialmente en una organización 501(c)(3) sin fines de lucro en 2022. El grupo está compuesto por unos 30 talentosos cantantes del centro de North Carolina que son conducidos por el director musical Allan Friedman y la acompañante Jane Lynch.
