Donizetti – Don Pasquale (Act 1)

Verdi – Un Ballo in Maschera (Act 2)

Stripped of sets and costumes, experience the comedy and tragedy of Italian opera in concert form.

Don Pasquale is in desperate need of an heir, and his nephew Ernesto refuses to marry his uncles’s bride of choice. There is no way out, the elderly Don Pasquale must get married himself. Enter Dr. Malatesta “headache.” Such is the premise of Gaetano Donizetti’s comic opera Don Pasquale. Boasting a bright and lively score and the vocal majesty of 19th century Italian opera, Act 1 is all laughs.

Act II of this program explores a different side to love altogether with Giuseppe Verdi’s Un Ballo in Maschera. Filled with duels, intrigue, and clandestine encounters, Verdi’s dramatic score will have you reaching for the the tissue box.
