Led by Artistic Director and Conductor Lorenzo Muti, The COT presents six concerts a year, often featuring classical music’s foremost up and coming talents. Today it is considered one of the finest professional ensembles in North Carolina and the Southeast.

    J. Arriaga – Overture to Los Esclavos Felices

    W.A. Mozart – Piano Concerto No.18

    L. Beethoven – Symphony No.5

It takes away your breath, puts you atop the world, makes you fear for your life and dance for joy. The ultimate statement in music, the 5th Symphony is fate knocking at Beethoven’s door. This performance will be the COT’s first ever performance of Beethoven’s eternal masterwork.

It is not every day as a composer that an Emperor will tip his hat to you and say “Bravo.” Mozart’s Piano Concerto No.18 inspired Emperor Joseph II to do just that. Composed during the most prolific year of Mozart’s life, this concerto is the epitome of elegance and grace.

Considered the “Spanish Mozart” Juan Crisóstomo Arriaga was also a child prodigy, and like Mozart died at a very young age (19). One of his few surviving works, the Overture to Los Esclavos Felices (The Happy Slaves) is an invigorating burst of teenage energy.

Featured Soloist – Enrique Graf, piano

Uruguayan pianist Enrique Graf has been described as “one of the best interpreters of his generation” (El Pais) and as playing with “fiery virtuosity” (The New York Times). He has performed in major concert halls throughout the United States, Europe and South America. Also a world renowned educator, Graf has headed the piano faculty at Carnegie Mellon University, the College of Charleston and the Peabody Preparatory Institute.
