ARTS DISCOVERY EDUCATIONAL SERIES PRESENTS
Sweet Chariot
Inspirational and educational, these talented singer/actors of Sweet Chariot tells the story of formerly enslaved African Americans by combining dazzling a capella spirituals with oral histories from individuals in their seventies and eighties interviewed by the Federal Writers Project in the 1930s. These first-hand stories as transcribed from interviews account everyday life, and their efforts to escape to freedom across the Ohio River, bring new understanding to students of all backgrounds. Based on oral histories recorded during the Federal Writers’ Project; compiled by Bruce Craig Miller, Virginia Repertory Company.
