Night of Poetry: Inaugural Community Fair & Poetry Showcase
Visit the Carolina Theatre of Durham on Saturday, August 21st from 3-8pm for an afternoon of safe, distanced, family-friendly fun for free personal protective equipment (PPE), music, giveaways, and performances throughout the afternoon and into the evening. The 2021 Inaugural Art & Health Fest is presented by the North Carolina Collaborative for Art & Health and North Carolina Central University’s Advanced Center for COVID Related Disparities (ACCORD).
The fair will run from 3-6pm with a poetry showcase beginning at 6pm and ending at 8pm. The showcase is FREE and will be socially distanced. The community fair will be held outside of the venue and is open to the public. There will be a mobile vaccination unit, free PPE distribution as well as health information and tabling for community organizations. Masks are required indoors and will be distributed to all attendees of the festival upon arrival.
For the past 7-weeks, youth participants from the Durham community have worked with their poetry coach to learn to express their emotions, experience, and thoughts during the Covid-19 pandemic in the form of poetry. This event serves as the closing ceremonies for our youth art-intervention COVID learnings writing workshop, Poetry? In a Pandemic (PIP), where students will share works they’ve written during the workshop. Guests will also hear poems from our PIP teaching artists as well as from local community members.
The Carolina Theatre is committed to following all public health guidelines set by the City of Durham. It will adhere to those measures that are in effect on the scheduled day of this event.
