David Zucker’s THE NAKED GUN 2 ½: THE SMELL OF FEAR (PG-13, 1991, 85 min)

Leslie Nielsen returns as the hilariously oblivious Lieutenant Frank Drebin in this frantic, gag-a-minute sequel. This time, Frank must thwart a villainous energy tycoon’s plot to kidnap a top nuclear scientist and manipulate the country’s energy policy. Along the way, he rekindles his romance with Jane Spencer (Priscilla Presley) while stumbling through a series of absurd set pieces and slapstick disasters. Overflowing with deadpan humor, visual puns, and outrageous sight gags, the film proves that Frank Drebin is the world’s most dangerous—and most incompetent—secret weapon against crime.

Followed by:

Ken Finkleman’s AIRPLANE II: THE SEQUEL (PG, 1982, 85 min)

The lunacy of the original reaches new heights—literally—as the first commercial space shuttle, the Mayflower One, heads for the moon. When the ship’s computer malfunctions and sends the crew on a collision course with the sun, it’s up to Ted Striker (Robert Hays) and Elaine Dickinson (Julie Hagerty) to save the day. Featuring William Shatner in a standout comedic role as the commander of a lunar base, the film is a relentless barrage of puns, parodies, and zany physical comedy. It’s a full-throttle farce that celebrates the “anything-goes” spirit of 80s spoofs.
