No child should be denied the experience of watching this landmark film. The highlight of “Fantasia” for many audiences is “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice,” starring Mickey Mouse as a lowly magician’s assistant who dreams of wielding great power over the waters of the ocean and gets carried away. Tchaikovsky’s “The Nutcracker Suite” is a colorful treat, as dancing mushrooms and thistles frolic to his famous themes. Stravinsky’s “Rite of Spring” becomes an accompaniment to the roaming of dinosaurs. “The Dance of the Hours” is a delightful ballet performed by hippos, alligators, and ostriches. And “Night on Bald Mountain” is a fearsome display of evil during a night of devilry. There has never been another film quite like this one.

Please note that this film may contain negative depictions of people or cultures. Why are we showing it? This film was a product of its time. While it does not represent the views of the Carolina Theatre, we hope that it will provide a glimpse into American culture during its time, help spark conversation, and help us to build a better future for all in Durham.
