DURHAM, NC October 20, 2021— The Carolina Theatre of Durham will host its 4th annual Rocky Horror Picture Show Halloween Ball on Friday, October 29th and Saturday, October 30th at 7:30 pm. Tickets are $12.50 and are on sale at carolinatheatre.org and at the theater’s box office.
The Rocky Horror Picture Show Halloween Ball is the most-successful standalone event produced by the Carolina Theatre’s Retro Film Series. More than 3000 people have participated in previous editions. The Rocky Horror Picture Show Halloween Ball is a fully theatrical, FX-driven motion picture extravaganza featuring a spectacular light show, geysers, lasers, and a shadow cast which encourages callbacks, including audience participation during the song, “Let’s Do the Time Warp Again”.
“The Rocky Horror Picture Show Halloween Ball at the Carolina Theatre is a very different experience than at other movie houses,” says Jim Carl, Senior Director of Film at the Carolina Theatre, “We’re a full performance venue with a professional in-house theatrical stage crew, including lights and equipment. When we present Rocky Horror, we add all that production value to the show. It’s not just a movie screening. It’s a one-of-a-kind event.”
Cast members greet fans as they arrive at the Carolina Theatre and provide them with glow bracelets which will be used for audience participation during the event. While many fans dress up as their favorite Rocky Horror Picture Show characters, many dress up as characters from other film and pop-culture favorites.
The Carolina Theatre requires all guests to show proof of a COVID-19 vaccination, or a negative COVID-19 test taken 72 hours before entering the building. Additionally, all guests are required to wear a face mask at all times unless actively eating or drinking, regardless of vaccination status.
The Carolina Theatre has also implemented multiple safety measures including upgrading its air filtration systems to purify indoor air quality, adding enhanced cleaning methods and touchless payment options, and increasing the number of hand sanitizer stations around the building.
