You Gave Me A Song (US, 2019, 80 min.)
At 84, old time music pioneer Alice Gerrard performs, teaches, and inspires the next generation while safeguarding memories from her groundbreaking past. This is one woman’s story of being traditional, never conventional. This is a film about getting older, but never giving up.
“You Gave Me A Song” was directed and produced by Kenny Dalsheimer, an award-winning filmmaker, producer, and media educator based in Durham. Watch the film’s trailer.
Country Soul Songbook is an artist-driven initiative, created by Kamara Thomas and in collaboration with Kym Register (The Pinhook) and Heather Cook (NorthStar Church of the Arts). The mission of CSSB is to hold space for BIPOC and LGBTQIA artists to be their whole, authentic selves while claiming their rightful place within the canon of the music that they love.
You can join them for the FULL four-day Country Soul Summit of performances and conversations this weekend (Oct. 15-18) by registering on a sliding scale at: countrysoulsongbook.com // @countrysoulsongbook
