DURHAM, NC — February 18, 2026 —The Carolina Theatre of Durham will present “Right in the Eye: Alcoléa & Cie” on Tuesday, April 28, at 7 p.m. The production is part of the 2025-2026 season of the Carolina Theatre’s Arts Discovery Educational Series, which offers school-day performances for students across the Triangle. In addition to the student matinees, the April 28 evening performance is open to the public. Tickets can be purchased at the box office and online at carolinatheatre.org.
Created by Jean-François Alcoléa and praised by the Great-Great-Granddaughter of legendary filmmaker and cinematographer Georges Méliès, “Right in the Eye” embarks audiences, from youngster to seniors, through a fantastic journey. Featuring a captivating, multi-layered score performed by three virtuoso musicians, it offers an amazing emotional voyage. Using an extraordinary range of instruments—including piano, percussion, guitar, and unique oddities like the aquaphone, theremin, and even plastic take-out lids—the musicians bring new life to Méliès’ films with mesmerizing music that evokes the technical wizardry and playful creativity that defined his work.
This multimedia production, showcasing 11 films, blends live performance with stunning visuals. The inventiveness of the musicians and imagery mirrors Méliès’ boundless imagination, creating a unique experience where both music and film work in perfect harmony to reimagine cinema’s early years. Reviews about this five-star show at the Edinburgh Fringe say it was, “A magical hour where films, light and music weave a rich tapestry. A unique experience.”
