Event to Feature Durham Leaders Paired with Professional Dancers to Support the Theater

DURHAM, NC — APRIL 24, 2024 — The Carolina Theatre of Durham hosts its third annual fundraiser, Dancing With The Carolina Stars, on Tuesday, May 21, at 6 p.m. Funds from the event will support the theater’s mission to bring vibrant, thought-provoking live events, film, and educational programs to downtown Durham, helping to build awareness of the local arts and small business community. Every year, the Carolina Theatre contributes more than $10 Million to the downtown economy, supports over 400 local jobs, and brings 22,000 nonresidents to Durham.

Members of the Durham community and beyond are invited to come together for a night of fun and fundraising at this high-profile event. Each year, leaders in the Triangle community are asked to put on their dancing shoes for a good cause. This year’s celebrities include Farad Ali, co-founder of ALIHEIJMAN; Rory Gillis, President of Triangle Digital Partners and co-owner of Triangle Media Partners; Jason Peace, Executive Director of Meals on Wheels of Durham; Pilar Rocha Goldberg, President & CEO of El Centro Hispano, and Linda Shropshire, Founder of Ella West Gallery.

“This fundraiser is especially meaningful because it demonstrates how connected the Durham community is between the arts, nonprofits, local businesses, cultural organizations, and the impact the theater makes on the local small business economy. We are inspired by the support of so many dedicated donors, volunteers, and artists and look forward to sharing this fun and quirky evening with the entire community,” said Randy McKay, President & CEO of the Carolina Theatre.

Local dance professionals have been paired with each Star based on their interests and favorite dance styles. Adam Dickinson from Adam Dickinson Realty Group, Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter Rissi Palmer, and Stormie Daie of Durham’s own drag family, The House of Coxx, will be this year’s celebrity judges rooting for and scoring each dance duo’s performance. Benjamin Farrell, well-known throughout the Triangle for his work in the nonprofit community, will serve as the emcee and benefit auctioneer for the evening.

The 2024 fundraiser will begin with an entertaining welcome reception featuring delectable hors d’oeuvres by Chef Paris of Teer Farm. The main event featuring the celebrity dance performances will follow the reception with each pair competing for donations and lively commentary from the celebrity judges. Sprinkled into the showcase will be seven exciting live auction items and raffles. Attendees can also enjoy a special after-hours party with live music, libations, and the opportunity to mingle with the Stars!

Tickets to the Dancing With The Carolina Stars fundraiser are available at OneCause.com and can be purchased at the door on the night of the event.
