September lineup includes national comedians and musicians
Durham, NC September 7, 2021—After nearly 18 months, the Carolina Theatre of Durham has reopened for live events.
The non-profit historic theater launched its first local event last Thursday with Durham-based Mallarmé Chamber Players and bluegrass band, Hank, Pattie & The Current. The theater’s September lineup includes comedians Nurse Blake and Theo Von, musicians Dawes, Gregory Porter, Amy Grant, Blues Traveler, and Bruce Hornsby & The Noisemakers. A full list of upcoming live events can be found on the theater’s website.
“We are thrilled to offer live events again,” says Randy McKay, CEO and President of the Carolina Theatre of Durham. The theater reopened in July, launching its popular Retro Film Series, a weekly double-feature of popular retro movies, along with other films. “What ticket sales are telling us is that there is an appetite for live events and we’re happy to be able to offer a safe environment to enjoy them,” says McKay.
The Carolina Theatre of Durham is following the City of Durham’s health and safety policies, which require all patrons entering the building to wear a mask unless actively eating or drinking. Beginning October 4th, all guests will also be required to show printed proof of a COVID-19 vaccination, or a negative COVID-19 test taken within 72 hours of entering the building.
Between now and October 4th, additional health and safety measures may apply for individual events. The theater recommends checking individual event pages on their website to verify what is required by the artist to attend an upcoming show.
The Carolina Theatre of Durham has also added hospital-grade filtration systems, implemented gold-star cleaning methods, and continued to use contact-less systems—to ensure the safest possible facility for their fans.
