DURHAM, NC —October 30, 2023— The Carolina Theatre of Durham partners with NC Comicon: Bull City for comic-themed film screenings on November 4-5.

In conjunction with NC Comicon: Bull City, the triangle’s locally owned and operated comic convention, the Carolina Theatre celebrates movies based on or inspired by classic comic books like “The Incredibles,” “V For Vendetta,” and Tim Burton’s “Batman.”

The series also includes the indie horror-comedy “Reptchild,” directed by local North Carolina comic book author and filmmaker Brockton McKinney.

“This series explores how the B-picture genre of earlier decades transformed itself into one of the ruling genres of today,” says Jim Carl, Senior Director of Film at the Carolina Theatre. “With the rise in popularity of such films, we are seeing an increased appreciation of their source material — comics. Our partnership with NC Comicon: Bull City celebrates both mediums.”

NC Comicon: Bull City is part of the theater’s Retro Film Series, which hosts double-features of classic films most Friday nights and includes several sub-series of films like Retro Epics Film Series, featuring some of the most monumental movies in film history and Kaiju-Quest Film Series, a Japanese genre of film focused on big monsters. More sub-series in the Retro Film Series can be found on the Carolina Theatre’s website.

NC Comicon: Bull City tickets are $12.00 and $6.00 for NC Comicon attendees when they present their badge. The full series of NC Comicon: Bull City films can be found at
