Volunteer Spotlight: Steve Cory

April 8, 2024 by Sandy Lerebours

Volunteers are essential to the operation of the Carolina Theatre. More than 150 volunteers help execute our comprehensive arts programs including live performances, educational programming, as well as a nationally respected film program.

During National Volunteer Month, we spoke with long-time volunteer, Steve Cory about why he dedicates his time to the Carolina Theatre.

CTD: What is your favorite part about volunteering at the Carolina Theatre?
SC: My favorite part about volunteering at the Carolina Theatre is that I get to meet and mingle with some very friendly people, and the staff really cares about the volunteers and patrons.

CTD: How long have you volunteered at the Carolina Theatre?
SC: I have been a volunteer at the Carolina Theatre for seven years and two months. My training, on January 11th, 2017, was led by Bonnie Brown and Jana Woehrle.

CTD: What is your favorite volunteer role?
SC: My favorite role is being an usher/seater on the orchestra level. I feel it is the most needed position, especially when the show is popular.

CTD: Do have a favorite memory that you would like to share from your volunteer experience?
SC: My favorite memories are the smell of the popcorn while the lobby is crowding up with excited folks and the merchandise line begins to form.

CTD: Why did you start volunteering at the Carolina Theatre?
SC: I started volunteering at the Carolina Theatre because TV has too many commercials and they do not make me do house or yard work.

CTD: What is a favorite movie or show you saw at the theater?
SC: My favorite show? There are so many. Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Rumours of Fleetwood Mac, Brian Culbertson, Melissa Etheridge, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, Toto, The Mavericks, many orchestras, and the list goes on and on.
