Celebrate Pride All Year Long in Durham, NC

June is National Pride Month, but the celebrations don’t stop there! As a diverse and inclusive place in the South, the city of Durham embraces and uplifts the LGBTQ+ community year-round, through events and programming for all.

The Carolina Theatre and other venues across Durham such as Club EraArcana, The Fruit, and The Pinkhook, offer queer-affirming live events such as drag shows, movie screenings, and more, several nights a week. Without a doubt, the community of Durham, NC has a variety of events to look forward to and celebrate Pride all year long!

“ALOK”—2024 Sundance Film Festival Short Film

Catch the short documentary film “ALOK,” June 7-20 at the Carolina Theatre as part of this year’s Sundance Film Festival Short Film Tour. The film is a compelling portrait of Alok Vaid-Menon, an acclaimed nonbinary author, poet, comedian, and public speaker. Executive-produced by Jodie Foster, the film also features Dylan Mulvaney and Chani Nicholas.


House of Coxx: It’s Funny Y’all

On June 14, Durham’s local drag family, The House of Coxx, will take you on a hilarious romp through their Southern Heritage with their variety show “It’s Funny Y’all!” The House of Coxx drag mother, Vivica C. Coxx will co-host with member Stormie Daie, and members Naomi Dix and Spray and the Jays make special appearances. Special guests Kb2funny and Pressure K Friday from Atlanta have a bit of comedy and drag sprinkled in the show. If The House of Coxx is involved, you know you’re in for a deliciously tickling good time.

Every Year, The Carolina Theatre of Durham produces the OUTSOUTH Queer Film Festival, a glimpse of today’s LGBTQ+ life through feature films, shorts, and documentaries from around the world. Save the date for OUTSOUTH 2024: August 8-11!


Pride: Durham, NC

Durham, NC Pride Parade

Pride: Durham, NC is Durham’s official Pride celebration organized by the LGBTQ Center of Durham. The event takes place on the last Saturday in September. This year, it will take place September 28 & 29. The celebration features a parade; a festival with vendors, food trucks, and information booths; and a concert in Central Park. Visit the Carolina Theatre’s booth at the event.


The Rocky Horror Picture Show Halloween Ball

Every October, The Carolina Theatre’s Retro Film Series hosts screenings of “The Rocky Horror Picture Show,” a film beloved by many in the queer community. This year, the Halloween Ball takes place on October 24 & 25. The screenings feature a shadow cast, callbacks, a light show, and other FX. Costumes are welcome!


Bob the Drag Queen: This is Wild! World Tour

Bob the Drag Queen comes to the Carolina Theatre on October 30 on the This is Wild! World Tour. The beloved, winner of season 8 of “RuPaul’s Drag Race” and co-host of the “Sibling Rivalry Podcast” will showcase their charisma, flair and unparalleled ability to blend stand-up comedy, crowd work, and music, while gracing the stage of Fletcher Hall.
