May 19, 2025 by
Angelique Stallings is Durham’s biggest cheerleader and brings light into every room she enters! Angelique serves as the Vice President of the Greater Durham Chamber of Commerce, and she is an experienced community and corporate leader who has served the Durham community for more than 20 years.
A proud graduate of North Carolina Central University, Angelique has strived to be a conduit between underrepresented communities and local businesses. She volunteers with many organizations and is a tireless advocate and ally for women and equal and equitable rights. She also serves on several boards throughout the community.
Angelique is an active member of the Durham Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc, and she is the proud mom of Dajah, a UNC and Georgetown graduate who currently works for the Seattle Seahawks. In her spare time, Angelique loves to read, to travel, and to spend time with friends and family.
We are honored to have Angelique as a part of the cast this year, and can’t wait to see what her and partner, Juan Matta, have been rehearsing. Angelique spoke with us to share more about herself and what this experience has meant to her.
You first came to Durham as a college student athlete at NCCU. Do you remember the first time you came to the Carolina Theatre? What impression did it leave on you?
My first experience was when I was working at the Marriott. We worked with the Carolina Theatre to bring in groups and give them unique experiences. My favorite memory was when I worked with BET to bring a live taping of Comic View. It was epic!
The Greater Durham Chamber of Commerce’s mission is to create a sustainable, healthy economic climate for the Durham community. In your mind, how does Carolina Theatre fit into that mission?
The Carolina Theatre is a great community partner. They create space for Durham’s youth and youth from all over the region to come and experience the theater in a variety of ways. They are collaborative with The Chamber and other entities to provide a vital part of having a good quality of life in the city. They have remained equitable in their price range and bring diverse entertainment to serve the full community.
It is so apparent to everyone how much you love our Bull City. What is your favorite thing about Durham? What are other ways you serve the community that we might not know about?
I am very active in the community. I serve on many boards including the Durham Sports Commission, Duke Housing Council and the United Minority Contractors of NC, to name a few. I am a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, INC, and we serve as an organization in many capacities.
Being a former athlete, you’ve had practice competing and performing. How will we see your history of competition and athletics appear on the dance floor?
Being a former athlete has trained me to be disciplined and coachable. I am using that to soak up all of the information that Juan is providing and trying to apply it. We will see if it works! 🙂
Who do you think will be your biggest competition on the dance floor on May 21 at Dancing With The Carolina Stars: Into The Groove?
I will be my biggest competitor on the dance floor. My competitive nature has kicked in and I want to be excellent and make Juan (my dance partner) proud. The other dancers are my collaborators. We are raising money for a great cause.
Angelique and Juan have on their dancing shoes and are ready to sweep the competition with their moves!
Join us at the Carolina Theatre on May 21 for an unforgettable evening celebrating our amazing dancers! Connect with familiar faces, meet new friends, and enjoy a festive atmosphere filled with delicious hors d’oeuvres, sweet treats, live music from local bands, and outstanding performances.
