Linda K. McGill Green Room

July 12, 2024 by Sandy Lerebours

On June 21, the Carolina Theatre of Durham Green Room was dedicated to Linda K. McGill, the late founder of Jewelsmith. Jewelsmith staff and Linda’s family and friends came to unveil the new Linda K. McGill Green Room, in honor of Linda’s legacy as a creative mind, local business founder, and advocate for the arts and culture of Durham.

The Green Room is a gathering area backstage for all visiting artists to relax and enjoy hospitality before and after performances. The naming rights were a live auction prize at the 2024 Dancing With The Carolina Stars Fundraiser in May. This special prize was awarded to Jewelsmith for their generous gift to the theater.

Kristine Wylie, President of Jewelsmith.

“We are proud and honored to continue to merge Linda’s legacy with the Theatre’s by representing her love for Durham and the theater in naming a special place for other artists after her,” commented Kristine Wylie, President of Jewelsmith.

Linda founded Jewelsmith in her hometown of Durham, North Carolina in 1976. In the almost 50 years of operation, she assembled a knowledgeable team of jewelry professionals and provided an atmosphere that allowed them to flourish and grow both as artists and as people. She instilled not only her innovative design approach in her team, but also her belief in the importance of supporting organizations that improve lives in the community. To this day, Jewelsmith and its staff support community-building organizations throughout Durham and the Triangle.

The Carolina Theatre is proud to collaborate with the entire team at Jewelsmith to create this meaningful partnership and honor Linda in such a profound way.
