Ballet Nepantla’s Mística comes to the Carolina Theatre on October 27

DURHAM, N.C. — June 30, 2026 — Ballet Nepantla brings its acclaimed production Mística to the Carolina Theatre of Durham on October 27. Tickets are now on sale at the venue’s box office and online at www.carolinatheatre.org

Founded by Andrea Guajardo and Martín Rodríguez, Ballet Nepantla merges classical ballet, contemporary dance, and traditional Mexican Folklórico to create a distinctive artistic expression that explores identity, culture, and belonging. The company’s name comes from the Nahuatl word “nepantla,” meaning a space of in-betweenness, a concept that informs its creative vision and storytelling.

Mística honors ancestors by celebrating the creative and spiritual energies of Indigenous, Afro, and Hispanic roots. Inspired by the traditions of Día de Muertos, the production transports audiences into the afterlife through vibrant choreography, striking blacklight effects, and Ballet Nepantla’s signature fusion of folklórico and contemporary dance.

Through movement, music, and imagery, Mística explores themes of remembrance, heritage, and connection, creating an immersive experience that is both visually captivating and deeply meaningful.

Mística is presented as part of the Carolina Theatre’s Centennial programming, celebrating 100 years of bringing exceptional artistic experiences to audiences.
