25th Annual Nevermore Film Festival Breaks Previous Grosses and Attendance Records

Festival Celebrates Milestone at the Carolina Theatre of Durham 

DURHAM, NC, March 11 2024—The Carolina Theatre of Durham’s Nevermore Film Festival grossed approximately $27,000 and distributed more than 4,200 tickets, breaking the festival’s previous records. The 2024 Nevermore Film Festival celebrated the 25th anniversary of the festival, which hosted the festival in-person and online. 

Nevermore showcases narrative features and short films with an emphasis on horror, science fiction, dark fantasy, animation, mystery/suspense, and action-thrillers. The festival has gained a reputation as one of the premiere genre festivals in the USA, being named a “Top 100 Film Festival” by FilmFreeway and “One of the Best Horror Film Festivals in the World” by Dread Central.  

The 2024 edition contained 11 feature films and 60 shorts, with 41 North Carolina premieres, five United States premieres, and five world premieres. The filmmakers hailed from nine countries around the world, including three filmmakers local to North Carolina.  

Jury award-winners of the festival included “Livescreamers” for Best Feature Film, “My Scary Indian Wedding” for Best Short – US/Canada, and “The Management” for Best Short – International.  

Audience award-winners included “Dr. Sander’s Sleep Cure” for Best Feature Film, “Greetings” for Best Short – US/Canada, and “It’s Really You” for Best Short – International. “Dr. Sander’s Sleep Cure” received international attention for breaking the Guiness World Records for most characters played by a single person. “This year’s festival was the highest attended and highest grossing Nevermore Film Festival in our history, ” says Jim Carl, Senior Director of Film at the Carolina Theatre. “We’re grateful to provide a gathering place for all things genre-related for such a growing festival.”
